Photography allows me to create, and also to interact with clients and people’s ideas of what an image is for them, which helps me to navigate the uncertainties and to reassure my path in this world. My love is Portraiture. When I photograph a person, a landscape, a pet, a food dish, a street scene that is how my mind most of the time works “creating a portrait”, an image that leaves the spectator with a feeling that goes beyond the eyes, beyond the “I like” or “I don’t like,” perhaps leaving you with a smile, perhaps with a frown. It would be nice if it left you curious.
I‘m mostly a self-learned photographer; I took classes later in life. I started in the era of film, negatives and positives, black and white lab and all manual cameras. I adapted to the digital format but I always go back and forth. My portraits have been published, I have won some awards, and I always value the validation that comes from that. But the most important thing for me is the next photo that I will take because I always find my soul in there. As it is today, I live in Hilo, a town in the East side of the Hawai’i Island or Big Island as it is known, with my husband and one of our daughters, missing the other one a bunch, with cats, a dog, in a land where we are shaping our farm. I’m blessed with great family and friends.
